Jayeeta Banerjee is a dedicated Bharatanatyam practitioner and an accomplished artist in the world of Indian classical dance. Her work reflects a deep commitment to tradition, artistic excellence, and meaningful cultural dialogue.
Over the years, Jayeeta has received numerous accolades recognizing her contributions to Bharatanatyam and Indian classical dance. These include the prestigious National Nrutya Bhushan Samman, the Pt. Jasraj National Scholarship, and the International Women’s Day Rising Star Award. Each honor reflects her dedication, artistry, and impact on the global classical dance community.
Jayeeta began her Bharatanatyam training at the age of six under Guru Dr. Thankamani Kutty. Through years of rigorous training, she emerged as a solo and ensemble performer with the Kalamandalam Performing Wing, gaining critical acclaim for her stage presence and artistic sensitivity.
After relocating to Canada, she pursued advanced training under Smt. Lata Pada at Sampradaya Dance Creations, enriching her expressive and choreographic vocabulary. Her performances have touched audiences across India, Canada, the U.S., and the U.A.E..
Jayeeta is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Vivarta Center for Performing Arts, based in Toronto. At Vivarta, she fosters a vibrant space for the study, practice, and performance of Bharatanatyam, nurturing emerging artists and promoting creative exploration grounded in classical tradition.
She continues to evolve her artistic voice through ongoing mentorship with Guru Smt. Sharmila Biswas and Smt. Lakshmi Parthasarathy Athreya, while actively collaborating with artists across disciplines and geographies.
Rooted in tradition yet open to innovation, Jayeeta’s artistic journey reflects a thoughtful, evolving approach to classical Indian dance in the contemporary world.

Our Saṅkalpa program is designed to build a strong foundation in Bharatanatyam by focusing on essential techniques and core principles. Jayeeta provides personalized guidance to each student, ensuring careful attention to detail and proper execution of every movement. This supportive and structured approach helps beginners develop confidence, discipline, and a deep appreciation for the art form.
Intermediate program

Sādhana is our intermediate-level program for students with a solid foundation in Bharatanatyam. It focuses on deepening practice through rigorous training and study of the full Margam repertoire. Students refine technique, expression (abhinaya), and stamina while exploring the cultural and spiritual depth of the art. Under Jayeeta’s mentorship, they receive detailed feedback and personal guidance to grow as disciplined and expressive dancers.
Advanced program
$30/class; 1.5hrs
Tapasya is designed for advanced dancers seeking to deepen their practice through intensive training in complex choreographies and expressive refinement. The program focuses on advanced repertoire, nuanced abhinaya, and deeper theoretical understanding. Under Jayeeta’s mentorship, students are guided toward artistic maturity and performance readiness.
Body Conditioning – agility, muscle tonus and memory.
$15/class; 1hr
Aṅgaśuddhi focuses on body conditioning to develop agility, muscle tone, stamina, and movement memory—essential for a dancer’s physical readiness. Open to dancers from all disciplines, this class strengthens the body while emphasizing safe technique and injury prevention. It is designed to help dancers build endurance and prepare the body for sustained and expressive performance.
The Art of Expression

This class offers in-depth training in the techniques of Abhinaya—the art of expression and dramatic storytelling. Open to dancers from any discipline, it is ideal for those looking to refine their expressive and theatrical skills. Jayeeta guides students with care and clarity through the nuances of facial expressions, body language, and emotional interpretation—essential tools for any performing artist seeking to connect deeply with their audience.
